What is Exeter famous for?

Exeter is famous for its cathedral. This building dates back to the 12th century and has England’s most extended uninterrupted vaulted ceiling. Another thing Exeter is well known for is its beer. The Exeter area is home to a number of famous breweries, and you can buy products from these breweries in various shops in the region. Another interesting fact about Exeter is it was a big inspiration for the Harry Potter books after JK Rowling attended the university here.

The city is home to approximately 130,000 people. It has a 2,000-year-old city wall and is home to part of the River Exe. This is the largest river in Devon and flows from the English Channel through to Exmoor. Attractions that are popular amongst the locals and tourists alike in Exeter include the Underground Passages, the Guildhall and the Royal Albert Museum.

The city is also the home of the picturesque Quayside, which plays host to an exciting mix of cafes, restaurants and pubs. This vibrant area is renowned for its excellent atmosphere and is often top of the list of many people’s places to visit when they first arrive in Exeter.

This region is also famous for its fantastic green spaces. You only have to wander to the edge of the city centre to reach places like Bury Meadow Park, Pinces Gardens, Riverside Valley Park and Mincinglake Valley Park.  It’s not uncommon for people to explore these soothing spaces for hours on end.
